This form of exercise doesn’t demand much, but the right kit makes a huge difference in comfort, technique and joint protection, making the experience smoother, safer, or more comfortable.

You only need three things - Nordic walking poles, proper shoes and layered clothing.

Nordic Walking Poles

These are not trekking poles. They’re lighter and feature ergonomic straps that let you push off properly. The angled rubber paws improve stride efficiency and reduce joint strain. We provide you with a set of poles for training and initial walks and can give you advice when you come to buy some.

Proper Shoes

Look for supportive walking shoes (rather than boots) with flexible soles, good heel cushioning and a natural roll-through. Trail shoes work well on mixed terrain. The correct footwear reduces impact on knees and ankles and helps maintain a smooth stride.

Layered clothing

Breathable, quick-dry fabrics keep you comfortable as your temperature changes.
